A problem with my Tacoma 4WD 4cyl.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I just found out that my 2013 Tacoma truck is leaking power steering fluid, and I am going to need to have a new power steering rack assembly installed. I bought this vehicle 2 years ago and thought since it only had 43,000 miles on it, there shouldn't be any major problems with it. It only has 53,000 on it now and I can't believe its going to take at least $2,000. worth of work to fix it. And they stated there might be more work it will need. They didn't seem to think it would be covered by warranty and told me to go back to where I bought it. Since I bought it, I've had all my work done by a Toyota service dept. I don't know what would cause something like this to happen, I don't drive it rough and hardly ever use the 4WD. At first Toyota thought it was the boot on the axle that was leaking, and as they looked further into the problem, they found out it was the power steering fluid. I don't know why they didn't notice the fluid was low the first time I had it in there a week ago. But anyways now I don't know what I can do, I can't afford to get it fixed and they told me to make sure I check the fluids every once in a while. I think this should be taken care of by Toyota, with the mileage so low and only a 2013 model. I always was a fan of Toyota's but if you are going to start having problems like this at only 53,000, I'm afraid what will happen next. Very disappointed in Toyota. Donna Wyrick

I have 2016 Camery Hybrid, to change the radiator, they asked me to pay $2800, and then they told me it's the head cosked which going to cost $3000.

The parts cost $350, and the labor cost $2650.

Machele Imf

Things break, especially a mechanical item with many moving parts. That's just the way it is.

Your vehicle is now 4 years old and personally, I would trade it in for a new model. Dealers are now trying to sell 2017 model year cars they have on their lots and you can probably get a good deal on one.

I wouldn't spend 2 grand on a used vehicle with over 50k miles on it. You would be throwing money away.

Recall issues

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Toyota sent us a recall for the Takata air bag system. When we took it in they gave us two options, don't use the front seat of our family car or take a rental at no charge. We took the rental. 6 months in, a small hail storm came thru. There were a dozen small dings on the rental. Now the dealership is requiring us to claim the damage with personal insurance and pay 1000$ deductible. If you would've had a good product we wouldn't have had to wait or take a rental to begin with. Be careful when you deal with these people on recall issues, it may cost you big!

Repair of engine oil cooler pipe

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Engine oil cooler pipe rubber hose failed causing all the oil to be pumped out of engine. Towed to toyota in Easley , SC to have repaired. Got a phone call and was told that all is under warranty and will be no charge. Then 2 hours later received another call and was told that upper oil had a crack causing cool lines to leak and it would cost $625.00 to repair. I went and looked, and the part was not cracked it had been broken where cooler was bolted to pan. The complete ear was broken off. After much discussion I was still charged for the upper oil pan $271.77. I have the part and will be glad to send you pictures or any other information you may need. I did not break part and if the part was defective from factory or if it was broken during this warranty repair, I should not have been charged at all for this. Please respond to this ASAP. 2014 RAV4 WATER PUMP LEAKS BEGINNING AT 39,000 MILES

I NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS WITH WATER PUMP IN ANY CAR I OWN. MY OTHER CAR HAS 160,000 MILES ON IT AND THE WATER PUMP STILL WORKS FINE. 2014 RAV4 JUST HAVE BAD REPUTATION AND TOYOTA SHOULD GIVE LIKE A 70,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE WATER PUMP. YES, A CLASS ACTION SHOULD BE FILED TO GET THE ATTENTION. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD JUSTIFY A RECALL, BUT TOYOTA RECALLS JUST TAKE TOO LONG TO FIX. JUST LIKE 2011 4-RUNNER, THEY GIVE RECALL NOTICE ABOUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG, BUT THE DEALERSHIP KEEPS SAYING THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT PROVIDED THE PROPER EQUIPMENT YET. APPARENTLY THEY ARE NOT FIXING THE PROBLEMS. I AM STILL WAITING FOR A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP.

Comments to Toyota Re: 2017 Sienna LE manufacturer.

2017 TOYOTA Sienna LE ______________________ Things I detest about it: 1. Wide spoke of steering wheel at 180° bottom. Should be open for at least six inches. 2. Dash lights are not bright enough. 3. Folding arm rests are entirely too high. Very uncomfortable. 4. Hood release and fuel filler flap release too close together. 5. Steering wheel tilt from down under dash is ineffective. Should tilt three inches below wheel. Things I don’t like about it: 1. Emergency flasher switch too far from driver. 2. Power sliding door package should include power rear gate. 3. Need power front passenger seat offered with fabric seat covers option. 4. Second row center seat should be fully self contained and leave flat floor when removed. 5. Engine vibration is felt in the steering wheel. 6. All-lock switch on driver’s door awkward and confused ergonomically with unlock. Things I like about it: 1. The sound-proofing is nice. Very quiet vehicle. 2. Having a roof assist handle for driver side. 3. Rear windshield wiper blade concealed at top. 4. White numerals on black background instruments. Things I wish were available on all passenger Mini Van vehicles would have: 1. In Mini Vans; a provision for a two-gallon waste basket centered behind front row seats; equipped with inexpensive, washable plastic liner that will accommodate a recoverable plastic bag. 2. Large, padded, flat, restful surfaces for drivers shins and knees with no sharp edges that irritate or cause pain. 3. Right side of brake pedal should be sufficiently far from accelerator to prevent accidentally pressing the accelerator when braking. 4. Two child protected 120v, 60Hz electrical inverters; one in dash; one in rear compartment. 5. Under Hood option for battery jump-starter/air compressor that self-maintains full charge; with cables and air hose of practical length (stored in rear compartment side pocket). 6. All gauges and interior lights with variable brightness that dim fully for long night driving. * * * * * Tarldon Neese 6 Signal Hill Spanish Fort, AL 36527 tarldon@***.net

Denial of extended warranty on Toyota Prius could could be a safety and liability issue of Toyota

Denial of extended warranty on Toyota Prius could could be a safety and liability issue of Toyota

In recent Consumer Reports, the second generation Prius has shown to have issues with the electrical reliability of the vehicle despite its overall high reliability ratings. As an owner of the second generation Prius (2005), I have experienced electrical issues with the vehicle concerning the combination meter and the braking system. The hybrid regenerative braking system is dependent on the electrical reliability of the vehicle and is an important factor in the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

Because of the complexity of the Prius, it is difficult to determine the source of an electrical issue without spending an ample amount of money. A reasonable fix would be to repair the faulty combination meter that misfires codes related to the electrical components of the vehicle.

I have seen multiple forums about faulty combination meters on the Toyota Prius, and it appears that about 3% of Prius owners have experienced a loss of braking when the dash lights (combination meter) are out.

In my experience, when the combination meter has failed the brakes are still power assisted, but the ABS won't kick on in a "panic stop" extending the stopping distance. I still had some control over the wheel, but lost power steering. I did still have some braking power with the brake all the way to the floor mat and I reactively resorted to the E-Brake out of fear of not being able to stop. Fortunately three of the four times this has happened I was only going 8-20 mph. The other time I was going apx. 65 mph and had enough time to slow the car down to get off the side of the road. Fortunately when this has happened I have not been on the highway and there was no snow or it could have been very dangerous.

The braking issue has happened to me 4 of the 100+ times my dash lights were not working. I have never had an issue with the braking of the vehicle when the dash lights are functioning normal. This issue has only happened when there is a malfunction with the combination meter.

I understand a malfunctioning combination meter may create many issues within the vehicle including braking difficulties. The response of the Manager at my local Toyota shop said "well, at least you have brakes, you just won't have them in an emergency stop." This seems completey irrational to me as I have read accounts of people going 65 mph and losing brakes when this has happened which could be very deadly.

I'm surprised at Toyota's response with this possibly fatal issue. I'm also surprised that the Combination Meter Failure has not been recalled. At what point does a "warranty" become a "recall"? Please note that this issue is separate from the "accelerator recall".

In 2012 Toyota released an extended warranty of the combination meter. Recently I was denied coverage of the extended warranty as I am one year past the nine year extended warranty. I have also been denied a Goodwill warranty to repair this part that has been faulty since 2012 (which was the same time they initiated the extended the warranty in the fall of 2012.) According to the warranty enhancement, this covers this failure for a period of the longer of 9 years from date of first use (DOFU) (no mileage limit) or before September 30, 2013 (whichever is longer for the condition described).

Technically I was in the shop to address this concern before 2013, but two of the dealerships I went to were unaware of such an issue and did not fix it. I only recently discovered through my own research that other Prius owners experience this same problem and now have been quoted a cost of repair for $809.37.

It’s unfortunate the Toyota would not offer a Goodwill Warranty given that I have had these issues within the time period of coverage, but was overlooked as a Manufacturing defect. I hope Toyota will reconsider their decision for this potentially hazardous issue.

I had the exact same issue with my 2008 Prius. I first had an issue with the combination meter years ago during the time the warranty was in effect, and when I took it to the dealer they said they had no idea what the problem was (since it wasn't happening when I brought it in.) As it began to happen much more often in the last year, I found out what the problem was, but the dealer wouldn't cover it because it was after the warranty date -- even though I had brought it in originally during the warranty period -- so I had to pay about $900 to replace the meter!

Guest

This happened to our 2008 Prius this week. And we have friends who have had this happen to their 2007 Prius.

Toyota sold hundreds of thousands of these defective things, if they were all to be repaired it would cost consumers about 700 million dollars. I will never buy another Toyota

Guest

I took mine in 2 different dealerships within the time period and was denied because of mileage. One had my car all day and then didn’t get it done.

The other put it off until it was past the 9 years, then denied me.

I will never buy another Toyota. I am in the 3% that has braking issues.

Guest

We have a 2014 V with 32k miles. The combo meter had to be replaced at 20k miles.

The initial issue was the dash clock gaining more and more time (14 minutes by the time Toyota replaced it).

About 3 months after it was replaced, the clock began gaining time again and my husband has experienced issues with the ABS as well as the nav screen going "fuzzy". Our local dealership is now ignoring us and we don't know where to turn to have the problem addressed.

Guest

Bought refurbished combination meter on ebay for about $ 150. Didn't trust myself to put it in, cost $220 in labor.

Been good to go since.

2008 prius 263000 miles, although combination meter says 124000 now. ....

Guest

Just happened to my 2005 Prius and quoted around $1000 to fix. Called Toyota Customer Relations and they were not helpful at all.

Guest

This is very frustrating. We have 2 prius' both 2005.

One now has problems with this combination meter. I have just put a deposit down on my new toyota highlander hybrid and I feel Toyota should show me some loyalty here. This is obviously still a big problem by looking at these comments. The inverter cooling pump went out a while ago and that was covered by a recall, but I just found out online here that it was first just a technical bulletin.

TOYOTA YOU NEED TO HELP US WITH THIS, NOT OUR FAULT. This is an expensive fix too.

Why would you keep paying money for *** At some point the decision becomes ours and we have to say no. Can you get your money back on the new car?

I bet they listen then. I don't understand either, they have practically broken down the door thowing offers to fix this or that at for us.

But luckily, we never had any problems. Like I said though, I bet they listen if you take your money back...

Guest

I let Toyota know that I HAD customer loyalty, wanted to buy a new one in January, always serviced car at a Toyota dealership...and they still offered NOTHING.

Guest

My Prius is a 2007...same exact problem. Quoted $879.21 to fix, and Toyota Customer Care said there was nothing they could do since my warranty expired six months ago. Seems like there are a lot of recent issues, and I agree that a RECALL is needed.

Unsatisfactory service - Arlington Toyota, Palatine, Illinois, USA

Please, email me your postal address to ericgin@***.com in Albuquerque, NM, dept. Unsatisfactory Service January 5, 2017 Senior Manager Arlington Toyota 2095 N. Rand Rd Palatine, IL 60074 C O M P L A I N T November 11, 2016 I applied to your Service desk with a request to install the new oxygen sensor to my car: Toyota Camry LE, 2001 (4T1BG22K41U036858). Although this car was bought by me in your dealership (in Illinois), but its emission system had been strangely supplied with sensor for California emission standards - and nobody reminded me about it. The fixing of California’s elements is much more expensive than for Illinois’ system of emission (Appendixes 1 and 2). It should be clear from the first sight that the new oxygen sensor (bought by me in Auto Zone store – Appendix 1) does not fit for my car. However, people from your Service desk held me 3 hours, and finally charged me $ 110.00 (Appendix 3) - for faked repair of my car. I cannot imagine that qualification and responsibility of your employees is less than ones in an ordinary mechanic store. Can it? I complain you with request to reimburse me money and “labor” that were overpaid in vain because of the faults of your dealership. As follows below: a. stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The Toyota corporation has lost the 'TOYOTA SPIRIT' IN A GUT WRENCHING DESPERATE CHASE OF THE DOLLAR. The company is so desperate to get their product out they do not even make sure that the auto part stores have the right transmission oil. TOYOTA only wants information on what it takes to increase sales. An example of proper feedback is finding out that the interior of the Tacoma loves to collect dust right after you clean the truck. As a work truck the interior smudges are not easy to remove. The Tacoma is a hard working truck that you can run all day and all night with absolutely no problems. The Tacoma needs a higher carrying capacity. Another area that the Tacoma needs is to " beef up" its ability to take on street bumps, and a splash plate to protect the transmission lines. An example of Toyota disrespect is as the warranty was about to expire I informed the lady that my work boots would get the drivers side floor mat all twisted. the company representative did not pass that information on to Toyota design team. I later went on to buy weathertech floor mats.

Toyota Truestart Battery

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I will never buy another Toyota battery. When I needed a new battery while having my daughter's car serviced, I agreed to their battery just to not have to go elsewhere for another brand.

It died EXACTLY 3 years later ( to the day! ) Their eighty four month battery is simply a 3 year battery that they will prorate for you over 84 months just to get you to buy another one.

I've had other brands of batteries last much longer. I'm so sick of car repair gimmicks used so the dealership owner can live in a gated country club neighborhood.

Seems to be a scam. I called stating that a 2 1/2 battery was bad and previous owner said it was under warranty.

Toyota said they only warranty for original owner which is worse than Walmart and autozone.

Even tire warranties are mfg. I'd expect more but they just don't care.

I have a 2014 Rav Toyoto . During the 5 years , I have replaced the Battery, three times, 2017, 2019 and most recently, September 2020.

The True Start 84 Month Batteries are no good and they will fail at no notice. I am also pissed at the overall service , I get at the toyoto, wherein , they want to always pro-rate the cost. I replaced the last battery with a better one.

I am at the crossroads of not buying another Toyoto because of the battery failure. Time will tell.

my daughter bought used 2017 toyota rav4 in october . itook it in for its first oil change since then at 24,300 miles .the service guy said it needed anew battery cost $160 .when i asked why a 3 year old car with that mileage would need a new battery ;he suggested because it wasn't driven much and probably sat for long periods .

i put new a2014 ford escape and average about 5-6,ooo miles year and have yet to be told i need anew battery. does toyota put bad batteries in their cars

Guest

The truth is that many of today's car batteries are identical. They have the same cases, only made to the color and decals ordered per specifications.

The "lifetime" batteries are the same battery as the 3 year battery, except the price is adjusted per statistical analysis of how many are expected to die within the "life" of the vehicle with that owner.

Some do have different plates and acids. All are "betting" that it doesn't quit within the warranty they sold you, or that you traded the car before it ran out.

Guest

I'd suggest doing a little research before displaying your uneducated opinion for all to see. I've been looking to buy a car battery and found that most suppliers do the same prorated warranty. It's not a "dealership gimmick." It's a Wal-Mart, AutoZone, batteries plus, pretty much all battery suppliers thing.

I will NEVER buy another Toyota!!!!

Just had our 84 month Toyota battery replaced at 51 months. Had our car in the Toyota dealer on Jan 10th, 2019 for inspection and service.

The block for battery was checked okay and today 2/4 it died.

Obviously they never load checked the battery. When I did, it registered 6 1/2 volts out put.

Guest

My friend bought a new Toyota fortuner. I year later the battery failed.

On investigation it never had the correct battery in it from new. After complaining all the way to the top in the Philippines he was told that nothing could be done as all Toyota’s in Phillipines are sold with this battery.

Reality is that new Toyota’s are being sold with a sub standard battery from new. It’s another scam

Check your warranty book, the battery as it is with all parts on a new Toyota is good for 24 months or 24,000 miles, not the amount marked on the battery. Sorry.

Your warranty sucks

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I bought a brand new 16 Scion Tc. A week later the battery posts were corroded and full of that green stuff. I took it to the dealer and they cleaned it and applied grease. In less than 2 weeks it was the same. It has been 6 months and that battery has been cleaned and greased at least once a month. Toyota won't replace it neither they replace the battery cable (-) that is completely corroded. I have called Toyota, The service manager of the dealer called in my presence and nothing... Now I know why other brands are growing like they are. My father used to work for Toyota in South America as a field engineer and now he drives a Kia because of the bad service of a dealer and the warranty issues of his car. After 16 Toyotas he is very happy with this new brand. Next time I will do the same. I know they do not care much about one customer but this kind of things grow.

The paint on the hood of our 2011 4 Runner is literally peeling up in several different spots. These are not from rock chips but obviously from defective primer or paint. You can see the bare metal in these spots. The color is just called white. Toyota will not honor this because the vehicle is out of warranty. Unless they have a number of similar complaints they will not set up a "Customer Support Program" for this particular problem. I feel like parking it in front of our local dealer with a huge sign on it - DO NOT BUY A TOYOTA! Has anyone else out there had a similar problem? If so, please message me
