I received a recall notice from Toyota regarding an internal oil hose on my 2007 Toyota Rav4 with a V6 motor. One of the symptoms was excessive engine noise.

My car had been making a liitle more noise lately so I took it in to the dealer. They replaced the hose but determined the noise was my water pump. The car has 84,000 mi. They determined the water pump was the noise source.

Kind of unusual for the milage. What pissed me off was the labor to replace....10 Hours!!!! At $94 per/ hr that was $949 just for labor and the parts and it came to $1248.00! To replace a water pump!

The V6 in the Rav4 is the only Toyota engine designed this way. Lucky me! What engineer designed the V6 motor. You know the water pump is going to go so why bury it soooo deep in the engine.

Come to think of it 84,000 mi isn't that much mileage.

My wifes 1999 FORD Explorer has 125,000 and the water pump is still good. Now I'm even more PISSED OFF!

My mechanic did it for $435.00 he had an engine jack and charged me 3 hours at $50/hr. You either had an *** or a crook!!

I just got back from dropping my brother off at a car rental company so they could return four hours back to Pensacola. They drove here on Friday night, and the 2007 RAV4 died outside of town and began smoking (83K miles).

Towed the car that night to the local Toyota dealership. Thought the engine blew up, but learned it was only a catastrophic failure of the water pump :). Learned the replacement is $1100 :( Went to pick up the vehicle Monday afternoon and learned...

ooops, the engine is also blown - that'll be an additional $6100 (for a refurbished engine) for a total of $7200. I am a Toyota lover and was planning on buying another, but now I am having serious doubts about the engineering and reliability of their products and question the ethics of their service - and this did not even happen to me.

Mines just gone (leaking) on a 2006 (new shape), with only 65,000 miles on the clock.

I called around the toyota dealers and they all quoted around the same ยฃ500 (GBP), which is about 3 hours labour plus parts.

Seems to me to be way sooner than I would have expected.

I seem to have done pretty well considering...2007 Rav with 147,000 km needs a water pump. Originally told it would require engine removal: 20 hrs labour; my mechanic did some research and found a way to do it in 7 hrs without pulling the engine - still going to cost around $1000.

So much for Toyota quality and engineering-what a load of BS. 1st and last Toyota!

My 2008 Rav4 V6 (42,000 miles) started making noise a few days ago. I took it to my local mechanic, and he told me it was an internal engine noise and I should take it to the dealer.

I already had an appointment with Toyota to take care of a couple of recall notices so I had them investigate the noise as well. It turns out it was the water pump. Luckily, my extended warranty is covering it it I shudder to think of the cost if it had not.

I absolutely love my Rav4, but for a car with relatively low mileage, I have received five recall notices so far and now the water pump fails. It may be time to trade in my Rav for a car with fewer safety and maintenance issues.

Have just been told the same on a 2007 RAV4LE v6 engine with 55K miles. This is very early for the WP to fail compared to other cars I have had.

Furthermore they estimate $1500 parts and labor, of which the parts are probably $100.

This is very unsatisfactory, to say the least. Grrr.

We also have a Rav4 that we just found out the water pump is failing. I was going to change this my self, but after reading it may take 10 hours to do and that you have to lift the engine to do it, I guess it is a little more then I want to takle.

46000 km and also was told that I need to replace the watepamp

Rav4 2009

I have a Toyota 2007 Rav 4, I cant understand why I have to replaced the water pump with only 60k mileage. I have a regular check up, i only drive 2 miles everyday to work.

I have my old jeep before and I dont have this kind of water pump problem. I thought having a Toyota car, would be less maintenance comparing to American Cars. But it seems, this is not true.

Im thinking of replacing my car, if this is the case. Im frustrated.

I noticed that my 2007 Rav 4, 6 cyl with 52000 miles was louder than usual especially when idling and sounded like it had a diesel engine in it. I just took it to the dealer and they said I need a new water pump.

Cost to repair is $768! I have always taken good care of my vehicles and was very surprised to hear this. I had an extended warranty that just ended one month ago.

But the warranty company went out of business a yr ago so it wouldn't have helped me. I am thinking about trading my Rav 4 for something other than a Toyota now especially since it sounds like this water pump issue is something that Toyota isn't taking responsibility for.

I have an 07 RAV4 4-cyclinder, went in for a routine oil change. The dealer service rep said I needed a water pump before the warranty went out.

I did not have any symptoms of a problem, but agreed to do it. I think it is the way this dealer to rip off Toyota. I also heard about the poor design of the V6 engine requiring the lifting the engine out of the mounts to replace the water pump, with an avg of 10-14 hrs of labor.

I wanted a faster vehicle, love the RAV 4 design. But I am looking at a used Acura RDX

Went for oil change at 55,000 mils on my 2007 RV4 V6. Told me to take it the dealer.

Water pump leaking.

I still had 3 weeks left on my warranty. Great to have a local shop you can trust.

I have been a Toyoya driver for about 6 years and have been happy with my past Toyotas. My 1998 Corolla live to about 200,000 miles never had ANY issues with a water pump.

Once that on gets totaled I decide to get the 2007 Rav4, I see that was a bad decision. How does the water pump seem to go bad right after the warranty is up.

Is there any way we can petition Toyota to either pay our money back for a faulty part that THEY put in the vehicle? If you are interested in perusing this issue with me contact me at ronnieikpe@***.com.

I have a 2007 Rav4 & I keep my car maintain on time. A few months ago I noticed that between my oil change, I need to put a least 2 quarts of oil in for it is so low-below the low point on oil dip stick.

I took the car to dealership where I have my car service for the last five years & was told that the oil was leaking back to engine & pistons were crack also. The work (parts & labors) was estimated at $4000. Since they were going to work on the engine, I told them to check waterpump if it needs to be replaced. They called me the next day & told me that I needed a new waterpump.

Labor & part is $500.

Oh by the way my car only has 50,000 miles on it. I will sell it after they fix it & will buy American made car!

I have a 2007 Rav4 4 cylinder. Add me to the went-to-the-dealer-for-an-oil-change-at-45,000-miles-and-was-told-I-needed-a-water-pump club.

They said it would be $544.

Not sure if I'm more put off by the need for a replacement at low mileage or the price to do it. I had not noticed any signs and said I would think about it.

I just came back from getting my oil change for my rav 4 2007 and at the end of the service, the guy; who by the way looked mad or upset since the beginning said that my water pump was leaking and i just looked at him like "what" didn't say much after that just directed me to pay for the oil change. Of course i asked "what do you mean: leak" he just said i need a new water pump.

he didn't offer prices, or any more information. i was so pissed after i realized and thought about his lack of service .

And i went to that toyota for the good service, guess i aint going back to that one. I kept calling and never got thru him.
