Just found out that the water pump in my 2008 Rav4 V6 is "bad". I took the vehicle in becuase I had just had it in for an oil change and check-up along with 2 more recalls (sigh...) and then I noticed that something didn't quite sound right under the hood.

It sounded almost like the car was a Diesel (or like I got a bad tank of gas). Toyota dealer just quoted me over $900 for the new pump and labor (which of course is a lot of work). I was nearly in tears as my warranty is over and they offered to charge me $780. Still pissed, especially after seeing everyone else's issues with these water pumps.

I would have never expected this from Toyota. I've had all my maintenance and oil changes done at the dealer I purchased my new vehicle from.

It's only 4.5 years old, has been regularly maintained, never had an accident and has 70K miles. This is dissapointing along with all the recalls and will unfortunately play a big part in the next vehicle I own.

Monetary Loss: $800.

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Same problem. Car only has 45,000 miles.

The problem occurred right after the 5 year or 60,000 mile manufactures warranty.

My garage guy says this is a common problem with the 2008 Toyota Rav4.

My 2008 Rav4 V6 has water pump leaking problem too. It was found when my car was in routine oil change and maintenance checks. Unfortunately, the warranty just expired.

Just had to replace my water pump 50K. There was recall for this for other toyota vehicles but RAV4 was not included.

My dealer told me I will get refund if recall is issued.

So register with your dealer.

Meanwhile who can we start petition to get Rav4 included.

2008 RAV4 V6 with 50K miles. Just had water pump replaced two weeks ago by non-dealer with lifetime warranty on new pump.

Took back in this week due to antifreeze leaking out. They inspected and found o-ring on one end of radiator hose damaged.

Replacing both at no charge. So, if you have to have yours replaced, recommend changing hoses and the o-rings that go with it.
